I have always loved fragrances with incense or smoky accords. And I’m playing fast and loose with the term 'incense' here as I’m including anything with smoky notes: incense smoke, myrrh, frankincense, and/or Bakhoor. I think it was natural for me to develop a love for such accords because I was raised in a household where Bakhoor was burned frequently and deep, dark, smoky Humra were used. I have scent design issues with both Raspberry Ripple and English Pear & Sweet Pea (review here) as isolated titles, but when smelled together the problems become even starker. That’s how these two scents were recently presented to me, on plinths side by side, on my trip to Sephora. Netherlands based niche house HIRAM GREEN is introducing its latest fragrance ULTRA inspired by the 1980s: the images of bold fashion with big shoulder pads, mullets, catchy synth music and neon hued interiors. Perfumer and brand owner Hiram Green is presenting it today at the Pitti Fragranze event in Florence.
